475 Putnam Avenue, known as Powder Farm

102.5 acres forest, trails, wetland, five lakes (owned by the Olin Corporation). The Hamden Land Conservation Trust hosts nature hikes here in spring and fall. The property was used during World War II for munitions testing.  Bunkers used for storing gun powder can be seen along the trails. The 5 lakes on this property are home to many species of birds and the trails are lined with wildflowers in spring.  This hidden gem is normally closed to the public.

HLCT hosts a yearly supervised hiking day on this property, in Spring.  Next scheduled hiking day is Sunday May 4 from 1 – 3:30 PM.
