Protected Lands

The Hamden Land Conservation Trust is active in all parts of town. Lands we have preserved include Rocky Top, Winterberry Wetlands along the Farmington Canal Trail, and Several of our properties are for land conservation only and are not accessible to the public. Once such property is the Henry and Irene Garguilo Wildlife Refuge, which protects critical marsh habitat, and also features a dangerous railroad track and is consequently closed to the public. Our conservation easements include a 51-acre tract of forest, shrub cover, and ledge at Gaylord Mountain Road and West Todd Street.
